Proclaiming God’s Word
Serving the Word of God by proclaiming it well.
Readers serve the community by reading Scripture readings at liturgical celebrations. They typically proclaim the biblical readings (not the Gospel) and lead the faithful in the General Intercessions (Bidding Prayers). Proclaiming readings well, understanding what is being proclaimed and proclaiming with meaning help the congregation to hear the voice of God in their hearts. In the spiritual sense, when the reader proclaims the Word, God himself speaks to his people.
If you enjoy reading and engaging with what you read, then you could be a good Reader in church.
